COMBINATION THERAPY 

For the Treatment of OA & Joint Injuries:

Umbilical Cord Tissue Wharton’s Jelly Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs). This allograft contains not only MSCs, but important scaffolding proteins, growth factors, cytokines and other components to promote healing.  MSCs have multiple differentiating abilities that can produce cells via osteogenesis (bone formation), adipogenesis (to aid in the formation of connective tissue) and chondrogenesis (cartilage formation). Cartilage defects can be treated and these MSCs can promote new cartilage formation.

A second allograft contains Hyaluronic Acid, peptides and growth factors. Compared to amniotic fluid, this product contains up to 50 times more hyaluronic fluid. Hyaluronic acid is often used alone in the treatment of OA and joint injuries and is often referred to as a “gel shot”.  Hyaluronic acid is an important component of synovial fluid that naturally occurs in the body and protects cartilage by lubricating and absorbing shock. With OA or a joint injury, hyaluronic acid decreases and aggravates damage to the joint cartilage. The introduction of hyaluronic acid helps in pain relief in OA and joint injuries.

The third component of our “trio” approach is PRP.  After a patient’s own blood is drawn, we separate the platelets from the blood. This platelet rich plasma (PRP) is injected in conjunction with the Wharton’s jelly MSC’s and Hyaluronic Acid-rich allograft.  Immediately the PRP begins to release growth factors that promote natural in ligaments, tendons, joints and muscles.
